On the 23rd August 1978 a basketball legend was born to a (ex NBA player) Joe Bryant and wife, Pam Bryant. His basketball career lasted from 1996 to 2016 and in that time he scored over 33,000 points. During his career, he played with the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA. His number was 24 and before every game after his death, the Lakers wait 24 seconds before starting games. The LA Lakers confirmed that Bryant’s jersey number, 24, will be retired in remembrance.
On the 26th January 2020, tragedy struck. Bryant, his daughter and seven others were flying to Bryant’s Mamba Sports Academy in Newbury Park to see a game. However, partway through their journey, disaster stepped in and changed the lives of many families, friends and fans. The weather conditions grew poor and the pilot couldn’t see much. The pilot started to ascend to get a better view but then started to descend uncontrollably. At 17:47 (British time), the helicopter crashed. All nine occupants were, sadly, killed on impact.
Bryant’s and his daughter’s funeral took place on 7th February 2020 and they were buried at Pacific View Memorial Park in California. On the 24th of February 2020, a memorial took place for Kobe and Gianna Bryant. Bryant’s wife and remaining children were in attendance, as were celebrities such as Beyoncé, Jimmy Kimmel, Michael Jordon – a mentor of Bryant, Diana Taurasi and many more friends, family and fans.
It is such a sad situation and we send our thoughts to the Bryant family – he truly was a legend.
