I luckily had the opportunity to watch the new Star Wars film the day after it was released in cinemas. I want to warn you now, there will be SPOILERS in this review so THE READER HAS BEEN WARNED.
Some of you may already know that The Rise of Skywalker was slated by critics, some labeling it as the worst Star Wars movie to date. I personally don’t agree with this statement however, it wasn’t all perfect and there were some unanswered questions. I liked the idea of Emperor Palpatine trying to convince Rey to become the next Sith lord and I thought that the plot twist of Rey’s last name being Palpatine was brilliant. However, I think this film was just above average. The main reason being the Kylo Ren and Rey relationship being a terrible idea by Disney.
It was nice to see some familiar faces in Star Wars such as Lando Calrissian teaming up with Chewie to find more allies to defeat Emperor Palpatine’s fleet of Star Destroyers. I really enjoyed the section about Ochi who was the person who murdered Rey’s parents, and the introduction of another cute animal in the form of the black-market engineer, Babu Frik.
To conclude, I believe it is still worth watching Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker if you are a die-hard fan of the series. Furthermore, if you have only watched the most recent movies, it is still worth a watch as this may be the last of the mainline Star Wars films.
I give this film 3.5 stars out of 5
